Child Find

Knox Community Schools is responsible for identifying and assessing all students aged 3 through 22 residing within the district boundaries who are suspected of having a disability. Knox is obligated to offer a Free & Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to all eligible children as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) & Article 7.

To be eligible for special education services, a student must have a documented disability covered by IDEA and require specialized educational assistance to engage with the curriculum. This entails undergoing a thorough evaluation, which can be requested by either the parent or the school. If the district agrees to conduct an evaluation, there is no cost involved for the parent. Students deemed eligible for special education and related services receive them at no expense.

Should you suspect that your child has a disability, please reach out to their teacher or the school's administrator.
