Bowen Center - Skills Coaching Now Available for Struggling Students at KHS!

Bowen Center - Individual Skill Training is done by a Skills Coach. All Skills Coaches have been trained in Evidence-Based Practices and they are able to meet with the client in the home, school, or community for the purpose of teaching life functioning skills. The purpose of these skills is to teach the client how to make meaningful improvements in daily role functioning. Our Skills Coaches are directly shadowed and supervised by Skills Coach Leaders, who assist in teaching best practices and promote further engagement with clients, families and treatment team.

Skill Training

Mindfulness – learning to focus attention, stay on task, increase awareness of self and
environment
Emotion Regulation- anger management, understanding and controlling emotions
Distress tolerance- developing coping skills, identifying triggers
Interpersonal skills- social skills, communicating effectively and building relationships
Building mastery- self-esteem, encouraging involvement in community, developing
interests and hobbies, identifying strengths
Parent education - team meetings, care coordination, linking to community resources
Understanding diagnosis- knowing symptoms and ways to cope with mental illness
Goal-setting – Identifying personal goals and setting manageable steps
Problem Solving – listing out pros and cons, identifying positive alternatives
Independent Living Skills – hygiene, organization, focus and concentration
